The Art of Self Care - Burning Bright without burning out
Parenting is an awesome responsibility that demands
time and effort. Taking care of children’s needs often becomes a high priority
to the extent that parents forget about attending to their own needs. But
giving too much can burn parents out and cause them to be less effective in
their parenting roles. Parents who are healthier raise children who are secure,
confident and competent. To this end, parental self-care is crucial. The aim of
this workshop is to equip participants on the importance as well as the
strategies and practical handles of self-cares so that they can burn brightly
without burning out.

How to talk to your kids about sex
2nd Run - positive feedback from 1st talk
SPEAKER:
Date: 11 Aug 2012
Time: 9-11am
Venue: AVA room, De La Salle School
Fees: $2 per person
Communicating
sexual issues to their kids can be a very challenging task for many parents.
Some feel embarrassed. Others do not know how to start a conversation on the
subject. But majority simply do not know what to say about the subject. Youth
today are very tech-savvy. If parents do not teach them about sex, they will
find out via Google.
Sex education is
not just about the sexual act. It is also about values. It is therefore
imperative that parents equip themselves with the necessary knowledge about sex
so that they can in turn impart that knowledge and more importantly, their
values, to their own children.
The speaker for this talk, Mr David Seah, is a very
humorous and engaging Family Life Educator. He is a father of 3 kids, aged 22,
19 and 11 years. Hence, he will be sharing not only the theoretical aspects of
parenting but also from his own personal experiences as a father and as a
counselor.
Mr David Seah will be sharing on the various stages of
psycho-social and psycho-emotional development of a child and how you can adapt
your styles and your roles to become an effective parent. Only when you
understand what is happening to your child can you communicate with him/her
effectively.
